BASEBALL – Braves win and Kyle Wright reaches 19 wins

Kyle Wright hit his 19th hit to lead the majors, Austin Riley and Eddie Rosario hit as the Atlanta Braves beat the Washington Nationals 5-2 on Monday.

The defending champions won their ninth straight at home and improved to 92-55. Atlanta entered the day one game behind the NL East-leading New York Mets.

Wright (19-5) won his sixth straight decision, allowing two runs on eight hits with one walk and seven strikeouts in six innings. The Braves improved to 22-6 when Wright started this season, including seven straight. 64 of Wright’s 88 pitches were for strikes.

Riley hit his 37th home run and is second in the National League. It is also his eighth against the national team in 14 games this year. He homered in the first off Cory Abbot, whose 368-foot drive just cleared the left-field fence. Rosario beat Steve Cishek 5-2 in the seventh.

For the Nationals, Mexico’s Joey Meneses 4-4. Venezuelan Ildemaro Vargas 4-2 with a run scored. Dominican Victor Robles 3-0 with an RBI.

For the Braves, Venezuelan Ronald Acuña Jr. 3-1, William Contreras 3-1 with an RBI. Puerto Rico’s Eddie Rosario 4-2 with a run and an RBI.
